Data Scientist

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:The Data Scientist supports the Office of Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness by developing descriptive, predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning algorithms, conducting statistical analyses to support decision-making for higher management, and providing recommendations, based on data analytics, to enhance academic quality, student success, and performance effectiveness of colleges/offices, with particular focus on MOHESR Outcome-based Evaluation Framework (OBEF).ESSENTIAL DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES:Data Analysis / Data Engineering: Collect, clean, and preprocess data for analysis in the context of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).ML Modeling: Develop predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning algorithms.Statistical Analysis: Conduct statistical analyses to highlight the gaps in achieving the specified targets of OBEF KPIs, support decision-making, and solve business problems.Business Intelligence: Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights. Also, create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings effectively as well as to follow up on implementation of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) submitted to MOHESR.Translate data insights into actionable recommendations for various stakeholders.Prepare reports and presentations for management.Communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Take initiatives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and performance of various units at AU through in-depth data analysis.Support other members of the team as directed by the Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:A Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field is required. However, a Master's degree is preferred for this position.The applicant must have at least four years' experience as a data scientist or in a similar role, including experience in a Higher Education Institution.Strong programming skills in languages such as PythonProficiency in using data analysis and machine learning libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, sci-kit-learn, TensorFlow, Colab..)Proficiency in utilizing data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Tableau, MS Power BI, or other related toolsFamiliarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, SparkProject management experience.KNOWLEDGE &SKILLS:Analytical skillsProblem-solving and critical-thinking skillsCommunication skillsAdvanced skills in programmingAdvanced skills in professional report writingWORKING CONDITIONS:Work is typically performed in a typical interior/office work environmentNo or minimal physical effort is requiredNo or minimal exposure to physical risk.The position may entail work after duty hours, on weekends, holidays, and in emergencies (i.e., may be subject to "on-call" responsibilities.SUPERVISION:Reports to: The Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness.Working Relationships & Subordinates: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
